Our New Years resolution was to have this blog up and running in January. Like all good resolutions that didn’t last long. Thankfully it was a delay rather than completely giving up on the idea. We still have a bit of work to do on the backend of our blogging system but it is now live. So thanks for stopping by.
This is just a short introductory post about what to expect over the coming months before we get started on our first real post which is in the works right now.
Who is writing the blog?
We are posting under the fairly generic author name of “FMS Team” and that means that anyone in the company can and eventually will be making posts. Firstly we are all passionate about software development. The good news for the blog is that we all like (some might say are all experts in) different parts of development, so expect quite a lot of variety in the topics we cover. More on that below.
Who is the blog for?
One of our key strengths is being able to talk to our clients in English, so don’t expect anything too technical (or if we do a technical blog expect concepts to be explained from a beginner’s point of view). In fact one of the roles of our project managers is to act as a translator between developers often code like language and our customers. It is the same with the blog where someone will review and edit the blogs before they are made live to make sure they are easy to understand.
So back to the question, who might be interested in the blog? As the articles increase we hope there is something for everyone, people who are interested in getting into development, people who are considering having software developed, people who are interested in the business side of development and many more.
How often are you going to post?
The short answer is that we would like to post something new every 2 weeks. However that is just our target, clients come first of course, so if it has been a while it might be that we are just busy. Also we don’t want to post just anything, sometimes it takes a while to put together a really well informed piece.
What are topics are you going to cover?
Well at the time of writing this blog you may see to the side just one category for Company News. It is looking pretty lonely. Expect that to grow over the coming months. Our first few articles are planned out already so we can say what topics you will see in the next few months, where it goes from there is largely dependent on what you would like to read about. So for a start our topics will be:
- Business Issues:
- We love the saying, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”. With that in mind we have a number of articles planned on the business side of custom development. For example how to set a budget for software development, what you need to consider between choosing to develop a web application or a mobile phone application, or what to do if you have a new idea for a Startup.
- Getting Started:
- The old saying that “a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing” is just not true when it comes to software development. It can be a hobby or something you want to make a full time occupation out of. We plan a series of articles on what you need and where to start in all aspects of development. There is no plans for lessons, there is just too much good material already available, but we will point you in the right direction.
- Reviews / Opinions:
- Software libraries, online courses, books, development tools and new features in the software languages we use. Don’t worry, no marks out of ten, but just some slightly more in depth looks at the stuff we like.
And that is just to get us going, thanks for reading and stay tuned for our first real blog in the next few days.
